Final Fill- In Shots!!

Upon playing back our music video we realised we needed to include more narrative aside from Harry simply walking through Tunbridge Wells playing a guitar. As well as our shots of the public which we are extremely pleased with, we asked other students at the school if they would help us out and pose for some extra fill-in shots. These include a simple medium-close up shot of each student laughing or smiling or lip-synching the lyrics "pick somebody up". Lauren and myself came up with the idea of filming three separate students lip-synching these lyrics and then editing the shots so it plays as three quick jump cuts delivering each word one by one.

Filming extra shots - Monday 11th February

Justine and myself went filming on Monday in the Pantiles in Tunbridge Wells in order to get some extra shots to fill in the gaps in our timeline. We decided to get shots of people walking past the camera and smiling as if they were looking at Harry. In order to get these shots we asked people from school to come with us and be in our music video, and we also asked members of the public if they could do the same for us. We found this to be successful, and everyone was willing to help which was very useful. We managed to include people of a range of ages, and also managed to get a variety of actions. For example, we had one couple walking past holding hands and smiling, someone with a pint who lifted it up to the camera as if to greet the artist. Hopefully these shots will help to build on a narrative side to our video.

Extra shots....to be filmed on monday

Currently our music video is completely performance based, but we have decided to create some focus on a narrative also. In order to do this we will be filming some extras walking through our music video and past the artist and smiling, as if the artist is having a positive impact on their day.

Shoot Developments

• Lauren, Andy, and myself have decided to incorporate different characters in our footage in order to build a narrative fuzz in to our music video. We are planning to ask some classmates to serve as our music video 'extras'. We intend to feature them walking in the pantiles in tunbridge wells listening to our music video track on their mp3 players whilst lip-synching certain parts of the music track


• Our next shoot planned is on Monday the 11th of February with both Lauren and I. We intend for Monday to be our final day of filming

More Editing The Video!

After completing our third shoot- notably our most successful video shoot by far- we captured the footage on the video editing suite. Next, we watched through our footage and retrieved the video we wanted, through the process of careful selection we then applied specific shots to our timeline. Lauren, Andy and myself found ourselves discussing the speed and effects we wanted to incorporate in to our video. For example, we have now decided to include a shot which reverses Harry's- our protagonist's- walking. We believe it adds more creative depth to the video. However, we feel that we may have missed out on an opportunity to include more narrative in our video. We originally planned to feature crowds listening to Harry performing and a separate narrative which involved various individuals lip-synching to the track. In addition to this, we abandoned our original opening shot of a red town bus pulling up with a low-angle camera shot of Harry stepping off; this is due to the fact that we underestimated the difficulty of achieveing such a shot. We also concluded that it could be fairly time consuming for just one shot. Alternatively, we settled on an opening shot of the busy traffic in the pantiles in tunbridge wells in order to establish the location of our video to audiences. Although we are now considering altering this shot so that Harry features in it in order to align the audience immediately with the protagonist of our music video.

Third Shoot - Analysis

Our third shoot yesterday was our most successful by along way. In thursday's lesson myself and lauren spent close to an hour discussing exactly where to do the shoot and the different angles and movements at each location. This being our problem in the past. Areas were planned very well and some areas we were still unsure about but we tried different shots and movements in changing locations so we can compare and choose in the classroom. The filming when very smoothly, we gathered all our footage and the weather was very good. Experimenting with a number of positions and locations along with camera movement turned out very well. Shop owners were very polite and allowed us to shoot in their cafe, and through a shop window. Around about three hours were spent filming and we captured a wide range of footage. As lauren said we decided to use the bandstand for authenticity of performance and this worked well. We got a few weird looks but alot of people seemed interested in our project. yesterday in conclusion went very well and we are looking forward to rewatch and edit the footage we have. We may need to film tiny aspects again but 95 per cent of our footage is complete.

Second Shoot - Analysis

After doing our second shoot we realised how much easier it was to edit and synchronize after playing the music out loud while harry was performing. Not only did we find it easier to slot it corresponding to out storyboard but harry found it alot easier and shots were able to be filmed much more smoothly. Unfortunately as we only ahd around an hour we only managed to get around 4-6 shots done. We had problems with out tape and footage was wiped off it for some unknown reason. Planning was below required and this lead to time periods of me thinking what next?......and where now?. I spent alot of time walking around and despite filming time being very limited i feel i gained a good understanding of the area and therefore be able to put forward location shots and filming opportunities to the rest of my group. On friday when we carry out our final shoot i felt it will be alot smoother and we will all be in the knowledge of what is shot where and for how long. The consistency of the weather on our shoot days has really helped our music video.
