http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hmXY2MSrguE
- Performance based
-Opening sequence - rebellion motifs - band bursts through the doors as their entrance into the video and there is graffiti on the walls where they walk through
- Band is empowered - low angle makes them look superior
- 'Meat' - continuous cuts to CUs of the lead singer
- Genre characteristics - performance of band
- CUs of the band playing instruments - reinforces the authenticity of their talent
- POV shots out of the taxi window - gives the audience a sense of seeing through the eyes of the artist
- Relationship between lyrics and visuals - 'fallen tree' - located in the woods by a river
- Barthes cultural code - taxi sign, black cab - only familiar to certain cultural groups
- Use of dissolve editing to move from one image to another
- Example of ambient consumption - doesn't need the full attention of the audience to understand what is happening throughout the video
- Lip Synching - artist is the storyteller - first person mode of address
- Not classic realist narrative - realises that performance is more important than narrative
- 'Beats' - shots are sometimes cut in time to the beat of the music

Lauren - this is good, although how does this video help construct Keane's 'star persona'? What type of shots are used for performance exactly? It could do with a bit more detail.
